Something for Everyone at Cromer’s 2024 Christmas Pier Show

There was a real sense of excitement in the air as guests gathered in the Pavilion Bar ahead of the show. Having only opened the evening before, many Cromer locals were experiencing it for the very first time, which made the atmosphere feel even more special. While a few early arrivals lingered over coffees beside the beautifully decorated Christmas tree, the rest of us made our way into the theatre, settling into our seats well before the curtain rose.

The anticipation quickly turned to laughter with the arrival of a wonderfully comical vicar, who introduced the usual theatre rules — no filming or flash photography — alongside a stream of playful jokes, many at the expense of the unfortunate pianist. It set the tone perfectly for an afternoon full of warmth, humour and festive charm.

As the curtain lifted, the audience was treated to the first of many spectacular Christmas set pieces performed by an incredibly talented cast of singers and dancers. From dazzling contemporary laser displays to hauntingly beautiful violin solos, the production moved effortlessly between high-energy spectacle and quieter, more magical moments. There truly was something for everyone.

The comedy sketches were a particular highlight. One joke poking fun at Keir Starmer’s apparent talent for political u-turns had much of the theatre — ourselves included — in fits of laughter.

Even with a short twenty-minute interval, the pace and energy of the performance never faltered. That, perhaps, is the true magic of the Cromer Pier Christmas Show: for a couple of hours, it completely transports you into the joy and wonder of the festive season through music, dance, comedy and sheer theatrical charm.

It was a thoroughly entertaining afternoon and one that Sandcliff would wholeheartedly recommend to guests of all ages visiting Cromer this Christmas.

A huge thank you to Cromer Pier for inviting us along — we are already looking forward to returning next year.
