There was a definitely a sense of excitement in the air in the outdoor seating area of the Pavilion Bar before the show began. It had only opened the night before, so hardly any Cromer locals had seen it yet – us business owners were about to get a super sneak VIP preview. They’d even provided free entertainment in the form of a singer and complimentary drinks. While a few enthusiastic drinkers finished up their wines and juices in the slightly chilly summer air, the rest of us swiftly found our seats in the beautifully decorated theatre well in time for curtain’s up.
The crowd’s whispers suddenly stopped with the arrival of a comic, who gave us the rules (including no filming or flash photography) alongside a few jokes at the expense of the one in charge of the piano. Moments later, the curtain finally rose to reveal a small cast of super talented dancers and singers treating us to the first of many song and dance set pieces. From the outset, Kristel Herrera was the star of the show with her huge vocal range and total professionalism. Originally from the Philippines, but now based in UK, Kristel had the audience in the palm of her hand with haunting vocals (Purple Rain a stand out for me) and tight choreography throughout. Her sidekick Joshua Mumby was pretty impressive too as were their backup dancers. Breaking up the music were some pretty fun comic sketches and quite impressive magic, too.
Apart from the 20-minute intermission, the audience were swept along with the wonderful pace of the show without a moment to think about much else. It was definitely a great show and one that the Sandcliff wholeheartedly recommends for all our guests, young and old, this summer season.
